The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced that drone operations will be continue to be permitted nationwide from 1-15 September 2025, under strict safety and registration requirements, while designated no-fly zones remain in place.

The new directive, issued as CAAT Announcement No. 5, follows an easing of tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border and replaces the previous order that expired on 31 August. Under the revised rules, individuals and businesses may operate drones for all purposes, but must still register both the drone and operator, submit flight details at least three days in advance through CAAT’s UAS Portal app, and notify the police at antidrone.police@gmail.com.

Areas Removed From The No-Fly List

Drone operations are now allowed in Chantaburi and Trat provinces, which includes the popular island of Koh Chang.

No-Fly Zones Remain Strict

Flights remain strictly prohibited in sensitive areas, including:

Five border provinces under martial law or military oversight: Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani.

Specific districts: Sattahip (Chonburi), Mueang Rayong (Rayong), Phayuha Khiri (Nakhon Sawan), and Mueang Ratchaburi (Ratchaburi).

Airports: Within nine kilometres of all airports, with new restrictions added for Khok Kathiam Airport (Lopburi) and Prachuap Airport.

Additional security-designated areas as declared by relevant authorities.

Drone Flight Conditions

There are no changes in flight conditions or registration requirements except that if you would like to fly between 18:01-00:00 or 04:01-06:00 you must get separate authorisation directly from CAAT. Flights are still strictly prohibited between 00:01-04:00 under all circumstances.

Note that flying at night was always prohibited, but since 15th August 2025 the hours are more strictly defined as 06:00-18:00.

All normal guidelines and requirements should also still be observed. You can read the General rules for operating Drone in Thailand at: https://www.feic.co.th/aviation-insurance/drone-insurance/

The current order remains in force until 15 September 2025, or until further notice.

The official announcement is available in Thai language on the CAAT website at: https://www.caat.or.th/th/archives/103513

We have received information that NBTC are not currently accepting registrations of FPV and self-assembled drones. Some customers are also reporting difficulties registering their FPV and self-assembled drones at this time.

Previously you were able to register and use FPV and self-assembled drones, including being able to attach your own serial number, but the regulations are currently much stricter.

The latest guidelines from the relaxing of the drone ban on August 16 state that visual line of sight (VLOS) must be maintained at all times and FPV cameras must not be used for navigation beyond visual line of sight. But there was no further guidance regarding FPV drones.

There is no official announcement regarding this and the situation is changing regularly.

We will provide further updates when we can.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has introduced a new “UAS Portal” mobile application to submit and manage drone flights in Thailand. This has been introduced alongside the relaxing of the ban on drone flights from 16th to 31st August 2025.

How to download the CAAT “UAS Portal” mobile application:

You can download this on iOS and Android from your app store.

The exact name is “UAS Portal”.

You can download from the following links:

Apple App Store (iOS): https://apps.apple.com/th/app/uas-portal/id6504277488?l=th

Google Play Store (Android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.delv.tracking&gl=th

You may need to set your region to Thailand before you can find it in the app store.

You will also need to have already created your CAAT account so that you can log in to the app.

How to submit a flight plan in the CAAT “UAS Portal” mobile application

First ensure you have already created your CAAT account and completed the pilot test as part of your CAAT drone registration.

Download the UAS Portal mobile application as above.

Open the application on your mobile device

Log in with your CAAT account credentials (that you used for registering your drone on the CAAT portal website)

To submit a flight plan (follow our step by step screenshots below for more details):

First select the flight area on the map

Select the date and time

Select your registered drone and enter other flight details

Submit your flight plan details

Your request will then be approved by CAAT.

Once your flight plan is approved, you can find your planned flight in the app and press the “start flight” and “end flight” buttons in the app when you perform your actual flight.

You must submit a flight plan at least 3 days before your planned flight.

This process is mandatory from 16 August 2025 until further notice and is still correct as of October 1 2025. Please see our Thailand Drone News page for further updates.
