About Hull War and Spares Insurance Coverage in Thailand

Although Aircraft Hull, Spares and Liability Insurance in Thailand covers the insured party against physical loss or damage to an aircraft, there are a number of exclusions as stipulated by the War, Hi-jacking and Other Perils Exclusion Clause (Aviation) (AVN48B).

What is NOT included in Hull and Spares War Insurance?

Various major events from the raid on Beirut Airport in 1968, to the attack on the Twin Towers in New York on 11 September 2001, have led to certain events being excluded from Aircraft Hull, Spares and Liability Insurance.

However, over the course of time, Hull and Spares War insurance has developed to enable insurers to provide coverage for all of these conditions with the exception of paragraph (b) of AVN48B which relates to, “any hostile detonation of any weapon of war employing atomic or nuclear fission and/or fusion or other like reaction or radioactive force or matter”.

By international agreement, insurers are not permitted to provide any hull and spares war insurance to cover claims made under this paragraph.

What is included in Hull and Spares War Insurance?

With the exception of paragraph (b) of AVN48B, hull and spares war insurance in Thailand can be provided for any loss or damage to your aircraft (and spares) for all the other perils laid out in AVN48B. This includes war, strikes, riots, hi-jacking, terrorism, sabotage and seizure by a government.

In addition insurers can provide cover when the aircraft is no longer in your control, due to one of these acts, for instance when it is hi-jacked.

Hull and spares war insurance in Thailand covers any threat made against the aircraft, or for that matter any threat made against either your passengers or members of the crew, including extortion. This can include any expenses incurred by you following the confiscation or hijacking of the insured aircraft.
